Pelvic Pain Relief
Pelvic pain is something I see often in clinic, and it can show up in many different ways—dull and constant, sharp and stabbing, or cyclical and linked to your period. For some, it’s occasional discomfort. For others, it’s something that impacts daily life. Conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis, and polycystic ovary syndrome are common contributors, but pelvic pain doesn’t always come with a clear diagnosis and that can be incredibly frustrating.
Understanding pelvic pain in TCM
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), pelvic pain is often understood as a disruption in the smooth flow of Qi (energy) and Blood through the lower abdomen.
There are a few common patterns I look for:
Qi stagnation – often linked to stress, presenting as tight, cramping pain
Blood stasis – more fixed, sharp pain, often worse around menstruation
Cold in the uterus – pain that improves with warmth, often with a dull or aching quality
Dampness or Damp-Heat – a feeling of heaviness, swelling, or inflammation
Everyone presents differently, which is why treatment is always tailored to you.
How acupuncture can help
Acupuncture works by encouraging circulation, both of Qi and Blood, through the pelvic region. This can help:
Reduce pain and inflammation
Relax tight muscles and ease cramping
Regulate the menstrual cycle
Support hormonal balance
Improve overall pelvic blood flow
Many people also find that acupuncture helps calm the nervous system, which plays a big role in how we experience pain.
A holistic approach
Treatment doesn’t stop at the needles. I often incorporate other TCM tools depending on what your body needs, such as:
Moxibustion to gently warm the area and dispel cold
Cupping or gua sha to move stagnation
Dietary and lifestyle guidance to support digestion and reduce Dampness
You don’t have to push through it
Pelvic pain is common, but it’s not something you just have to live. Whether you’ve been diagnosed with something like endometriosis or you’re still searching for answers, acupuncture offers a supportive, natural way to manage symptoms and reconnect with your body.
If you’re struggling with pelvic pain, you’re not alone and there are options to help you feel more comfortable, more supported, and more in control of your health.
