Spring Teas & Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Spring teas through a Traditional Chinese Medicine lens.
Spring is a time of movement, growth and renewal. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it’s associated with the Liver, and we often think about supporting the smooth flow of Qi as we move out of winter. One simple way to embrace the season? A nourishing cup of tea.
Here are a few favourites to enjoy in spring:
Peppermint tea: Fresh and cooling, peppermint can be lovely when you’re feeling warm, heavy or a little congested. It’s traditionally used to help promote the free flow of Qi.
Chrysanthemum tea: A classic TCM spring tea. Chrysanthemum is considered cooling and is traditionally used to help clear excess heat, particularly when you’re experiencing things like red, irritated eyes or a warm, flushed feeling.
Green tea: Light and refreshing, green tea is considered cooling in TCM and can be a nice choice as the weather starts to warm. It’s best enjoyed in moderation, particularly if you tend to feel cold or have a sensitive digestive system.
Ginger tea: Although ginger is warming rather than cooling, it can be helpful when you tend towards feeling cold, sluggish or have a sensitive digestion. A little fresh ginger steeped in hot water can be wonderfully warming and comforting.
Rose tea: Rose is traditionally used in TCM to help move Qi and support emotional wellbeing. Its gentle floral flavour makes it a beautiful tea for those moments when you need to pause and take a breath.
